Microsoft MVP Global Summit 2015

We’re leaving Las Vegas (VEEAMON 2015) and are heading for Seattle.

I’ll be spending a week in Bellevue/Redmond from November 1st to November 8th to attend the Microsoft MVP Global Summit 2015. As a Microsoft MVP one does not want to miss this summit. And I know quite a few MVPs who have quit their jobs the moment their boss told ‘m they could not go. Not saying we’d all do that but it’s true that skilled experts are in high demand and missing out on the MVP summit isn’t exactly making the best use of any MVP you employ.

It’s all NDA so basically I can’t tell you anything. But we’ll be sharing some tweets if joy and some lightweight blogs to share with the world how happy we MVPs are to be back at the mother ship for our annual firmware downloads and scheduled maintenance.

Until then here’s a nice Bing Maps overview of the MVP before & after hours area of operation.image

So yes, the Microsoft MVPs are descending on Bellevue / Redmond once again in large numbers. So you might hear a bit more Microsoft technology discussions in a bit more foreign languages or accents than otherwise. It’s us, no worries!

It’s just great to an MVP Smile

Putting Windows Server 2016 TPv3 To The Test

I’ve dedicated some time to start investigating the new and improved feature and capabilities ever since Technical Preview 1 (TPv1). We kept going with TPv2 and now TPV3. The proving grounds for putting Windows Server 2016 TPv3 to the test are up and running.image

As usual I’ll be sharing some of the results and finding.  I only use the public Technical Previews for this so this means that it’s public information you can read about and go test  or find out about yourself.

So far things are going quite well. I’m learing a lot. Sure, I’m also hitting some issues left and right but on the whole Windows Server 2016 is giving me good vibes.

Expertise, insights, knowledge and experience is hard won. It’s never free. So I test what I need to find out about, find interesting or think what will be valuable in the future. Asking for me to go and test things for you on demand isn’t really going to work. I have bills to pay and cannot spend time, effort & resources on all of the numerous roles and features available to us in this release. Trust me I get enough offer to work for free or peanuts from both strangers and employers, so, thanks for the offers but I need no more 😉

I’m a Veeam Vanguard 2015

Veeam has announced it’s Veeam Vanguard program last month while I was on vacation. I am honored to have been nominated as 1 of 31 professionals world wide. Veeam states the following, which I consider to be a great compliment:

These individuals have been nominated as Veeam Vanguards for 2015. A Veeam Vanguard represents our brand to the highest level in many of the different technology communities in which we engage. These individuals are chosen for their acumen, engagement and style in their activities on and offline.

Rick Vanover is spearheading this program together with the Veeam Product Strategy Team and the entire company is behind this initiative as you can read here What is the Veeam Vanguard Program?

Veeam now has a program like the VMware vExpert, Cisco Champion and Microsoft MVP programs. I’m honored to be nominated and I’m sure Veeam will execute this well as I have one very consistent experience with both Veeam employees and products: quality and dedication to deliver the best possible solutions for their customers. The fact that I’ve been nominated makes me feel appreciated by people whom I respect for their professionalism and skills. As I’m confortable acting as the tip of the spear implementing technologies at the organizations I support I kind of feel that being a Veeam Vanguard is a great fit Smile

I have shared insights, ideas and feedback with VEEAM before and I’m sure we’ll get plenty of opportunities to do even more of that in the future.

E2EVC 2015 Berlin SMB Direct Slide Deck

I attended and presented at E2EVC 2015 in Berlin from June 12th to June 14th. The networking was a blast. No “marchitecure” bull shit or vendor fairy tales what so ever and lots of very open discussions on the realities we’re seeing and facing in virtualization and cloud. Most account managers and esoteric presales would die a painful (but fast) death in this environment.

image

One session was with my Hyper-V Amigo buddy Carsten Rachfahl and was pure demo extravaganza, so no slides. My own session was “SMB Direct – The Secret Decoder Ring” and was an attempt to position this technology what by looking at the why and where followed by the how by who and when.

image

I hope a lot of people had at least a better understanding of SMB Direct, RDMA and DCB. The second aim was to take away the fear many people have of this tech by showcasing it in short demos. Time constraints where a challenge so it was not a 200 level session.

Please download the presentation here if interested.

Enjoy. If you have any concerns or questions, ask, and I’ll try to answer.
