Recommended hotfixes and updates for Windows Server 2012 R2-based failover clusters

The following is the base line for any new Windows Server 2012 R2 Cluster build or existing one if and when possible. I suggest you make it possible.

Over here you’ll fine the Microsoft KB article that list all the  recommended cluster hotfixes that are to be installed as a base: KB2920151: Recommended hotfixes and updates for Windows Server 2012 R2-based failover clusters

This is kept up to date and you might see individual hotfixes disappear as they are integrated into an update rollup package and such.

At the moment of writing (September 9th 2015)  you’ll need 3 additional fixes:

  • KB3063283 – Update to improve the backup of Hyper-V Integrated components in Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 (added 2015/06/9)
  • KB3060678 – Snapshots are not deleted after you perform a backup operation by using VSS in Windows Server 2012 R2 (added 2015/06/9)
  • KB3090343 – CSV failures during the VSS backup in a Windows Server 2012 R2-based Hyper-V cluster (added 2015/09/08)

That’s it. I have all of these running on many clusters and we have seen no issues with them so far.

As a closing piece of advise I suggest, if you haven’t already, investigate & setup Cluster Aware Updating. This is a time saver and a great tool. Here as link to all my blogs and web casts on this very subject https://blog.workinghardinit.work/?s=cluster+aware+updating&submit=Search
